Ingredients for Coffee Flan

  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 tbsp of instant coffee
  • 4 eggs
  • ⅓ cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla

For the caramel

  • 1 cup of sugar

How to Prepare Coffee Flan

1

Start with the caramel by placing a cup of sugar in a small pot and cook without stirring over low heat until it dissolves and turns golden.

2

Carefully pour the caramel into the mold, spread it around the edges, and let it cool while we prepare the coffee flan.

3

In a pot, heat the 2 cups of milk, 1/3 cup of sugar, vanilla, and 1 tbsp of instant coffee.

4

Don’t let it boil; it should just be warm. Remove it and in another container, whisk 4 eggs, mix with the prepared milk, and strain to remove any egg residues as you add it to the mold. This ensures it turns out super creamy.

5

Cover with aluminum foil and cook for 45 minutes over low heat in a water bath.

6

Remove it, but be patient as it needs to cool first at room temperature and then for a few hours in the refrigerator.

7

After that, you can unmold it without any issues and enjoy the delicious coffee flan.

How to Make the Best Coffee Flan?

Making homemade coffee flan is super easy, but you must pay attention to each step to ensure it turns out super creamy and with the best result.

First, there’s the caramel; you need to be patient. Let it cook until the sugar dissolves, and unless necessary, don’t stir it. If you’re looking for a mold, you can check out the best molds for flan. You can also find them in this store. Just be very careful not to burn it because it will give the flan a bitter taste.

On the other hand, always remember not to boil the milk. We just want it to be warm enough to dissolve the coffee and sugar, integrating them perfectly. In fact, you can do this step either on the stove or in a microwave. Another key step for a perfect coffee flan is to strain the mixture before pouring it into the flan mold.

This is crucial for me because it removes any unnecessary egg residues, ensuring a much creamier flan. You can cook it with or without an oven, as I explained, but always respect the cooking times to maintain a super soft and light texture. The result is perfect, full of flavor, and the best part is that its preparation is very simple.
